One of the most commonly requested cosmetic dentistry procedures is teeth whitening. Whether it’s from starting every day with a cup of coffee or simply getting older, most people experience teeth stains and yellowing at some point in their lives. A whiter smile can make a dramatic difference in your appearance—and since teeth yellow as we age, a simple bleaching treatment can even make you look younger.

We offer two options for teeth whitening at Fabey Dental. These include:

In-Office Bleaching

For the most dramatic results in the shortest amount of time, choose our in-office bleaching treatments. After a single office visit, you’ll leave with a noticeably whiter smile. The treatment begins by using a protective gel or rubber shield to prevent irritation to your gums. Next, a carbamide peroxide bleaching agent is applied to your teeth, which is then activated by a specialized laser light to enhance its effects. Treatment is usually complete in under an hour.

At-Home Bleaching

We also offer at-home bleaching kits that allow you to whiten your teeth on your own time. You’ll come to our office where we’ll take impressions of your teeth, which are used to create a set of custom trays that hold a carbide peroxide whitening gel against your teeth. We’ll provide you with instructions on how to use your at-home bleaching kit to achieve your desired results.

Frequently Asked Questions About Teeth Whitening

What is the best whitener for your teeth?

If you have mild stains or you’d like to whiten your teeth at home, our at-home bleaching kits may be the best fit for you. For more severe stains or faster results, we recommend in-office bleaching treatments.

Can yellow teeth be whitened?

In most cases, yellow teeth can be whitened with bleaching. There are some types of discoloration that don’t respond to these treatments—intrinsic stains, which come from inside the teeth, and yellowing caused by enamel erosion. In these cases, we can discuss alternative treatments to help brighten your smile.

Does teeth whitening last forever?

No, your teeth whitening won’t last forever, but you can ensure that the results last as long as possible by following our aftercare instructions, which include good oral hygiene habits, dental cleanings every six months, and occasional touch-ups with home whitening products.

Is it painful to get your teeth whitened?

Some patients experience tooth sensitivity during and after teeth whitening treatments, but this is temporary. If you’ve had issues with tooth sensitivity in the past, let us know and we can adjust your whitening treatment accordingly.

How can I whiten my teeth quickly?

In-office teeth whitening treatments are the fastest way to brighten your smile. Your teeth will be noticeably whiter as soon as you leave our office!

Is teeth whitening safe?
Teeth whitening that is overseen by a dentist is very safe, but there are some over-the-counter and mail order products that can damage tooth enamel and irritate the soft tissues in your mouth. If you are purchasing your own teeth whitening products, be sure to look for one that carries the American Dental Association seal.
